When to Seek Emergency Care

Our virtual clinic is not suitable for:

  • Open fractures or major trauma

  • Severe bleeding, uncontrolled pain, or signs of infection

  • Children under 16 (unless otherwise advised)

Can you diagnose a fracture during a video consultation?

A diagnosis may be suggested based on your history, symptoms, and any imaging you provide (such as X-rays or reports). However, a physical examination or in-person imaging may still be recommended for confirmation or further management.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

You can book directly without a referral. However, if you want to claim a Medicare rebate for a specialist consultation, a valid GP referral is required at the time of your appointment.

What should I prepare before my consultation?

To make the most of your consultation, please have the following ready:

  • Any imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI) or medical reports

  • Referral letter (if applicable)

  • A quiet, well-lit space for the video call

  • A device with a working camera and microphone

Can you prescribe treatment or refer me to other specialists?

Yes. If clinically appropriate, your orthopaedic specialist can provide:

  • Medical advice

  • Imaging requests

  • Referrals to physiotherapists, surgeons, or other specialists

  • Guidance on splinting, immobilisation, or activity modification

Please note that prescriptions are not issued for controlled medications or narcotics via telehealth

What if I need urgent care?

This service is not suitable for emergency situations. If you are experiencing:

  • Severe pain

  • Open wounds or compound fractures

  • Loss of circulation or sensation

  • Signs of infection (e.g. fever, redness, swelling)

How long is the appointment?

Most virtual consultations are scheduled for approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on the complexity of your condition and the need for follow-up.

Is this service suitable for children?

We currently see patients aged 16 and over. For younger children, we recommend attending an in-person paediatric or orthopaedic service.

What are the costs involved?

Private consultation fees apply. Medicare rebates may be available with a valid GP referral. Please contact us or check our pricing page for up-to-date fee information.

What if I need surgery or in-person treatment?

If your condition requires surgery or in-person care, we will help coordinate a referral to a local orthopaedic service or hospital. We can also provide supporting documentation for your GP or physiotherapist.

Can I use this service from anywhere in Australia?

Yes, our Virtual Fracture Clinic is available to patients across Australia. Please ensure you have access to a stable internet connection and a private environment for your consultation.
