9 News QLD: The Fracture Clinic

Natasha Pruchniewicz Reporting for 9 News at the Gold Coast’s Fracture Clinic.

The Fracture Clinic is a Medicare funded service that is helping patients get back on their feet six times faster than public hospitals.

Approximately 350 patients per month are treated at the Fracture Clinic for broken bones.  A team of 7 manage non-surgical fractures 3 days per week.  Instead of waiting in long queues, the Fracture Clinic patients are seen quicker with much shorter wait times and also accept walk-ins.

Brad Smith from the Fracture Clinic explains “Within half an hour, you can be seen by our Doctors and can be straight off to have a CT Scan next door and be back within 5 minutes. On the Gold Coast there would be anywhere from 800 to 1000 fractures a month that are managed non-operatively.”

The service is run by Medicare which covers the entire cost for consultations, standard treatments and regular casts.

The clinic is soon expanding and opening its doors 6 days a week by mid 2020.
