These benefits are designed to help you cover the costs associated with medical treatment, rehabilitation, and lost income as an injured worker, due to hazardous work, the safety risks of your industry, or accidents on the job.

We understand the challenges of navigating the WorkCover system. Our team of experts has years of experience in efficient workplace injury management and supporting you with smooth WorkCover claims. While we treat your injury or fracture, we are happy to advise you along the way as to the best way to claim your workers’ compensation.

Work Cover
FAQ
While we help you with the process of applying for your worker’s compensation and can liaise with your insurer, The Fracture Clinic doesn’t have anything to do with the worker’s compensation payouts themselves.
However, as many of our patients are curious about the process, and what they can expect from a claim, we have developed these basic FAQs. More information can be found by contacting WorkCover QLD, or by seeking legal advice.
What is WorkCover Queensland, and what does it do?
WorkCover Queensland is a government-owned statutory body that provides financial support, insurance, and rehabilitation services for workers injured on the job. It works closely with WorkSafe Queensland to improve workplace health and safety, ensure employer compliance with safety standards, and deliver comprehensive support services to Queensland workers.
What is a Certificate of Capacity and why do I need it?
This is a medical certificate used in workers’ compensation. It outlines your injury diagnosis and treatment plan, as well as the work you can and can’t do
What costs are covered under WorkCover?
WorkCover typically covers costs associated with medical and allied health practitioners (e.g. GP, physio, chiro, psych, etc.), surgery and rehabilitation, prescriptions, time off work (weekly payments due to loss of income), travel for treatment, and return-to-work support.
Do I need to see a special doctor for WorkCover?
Yes – you need to see a WorkCover-accredited GP for your certificates. You may also be referred to approved specialists or allied health providers.
Do I have to stop working completely?
If you’re capable, we recommend you to continue performing suitable duties. We can assist your employer to match tasks with your current abilities. Returning to work with a modified task list can help recover sooner.
What happens if my claim is rejected?
If your WorkCover claim is rejected, you can request a review with your insurer, seek legal advice, or go through a formal dispute resolution process.
Do I need a lawyer for my WorkCover claim?
Most claims are straightforward, however, complex cases involving permanent impairment, disputes, or psychological injuries, might require some legal advice. Free legal support is also available in some cases.
How long can I be on WorkCover benefits?
The time-frame for WorkCover benefits depends on your injury severity and recovery progress. Some patients recover in weeks while others need long-term support. If your recovery is taking longer than usual, you may be assessed for permanent impairment, or capacity for alternative work.
Does The Fracture Clinic help with the WorkCover claim process?
As a patient, you’ll need to start the claim process yourself. However, we’re happy to provide the WorkCover certificate and progress reports upon request. Your insurer if not WorkCover QLD/NSW will need to send us an approval so we can bill them directly. If your claim is still pending and hasn’t been pre-approved, you’ll need to cover the clinic costs upfront and claim through your insurer later.
What kind of financial support is available to injured workers in Queensland?
Injured workers in Queensland may be eligible for various forms of financial support, including weekly payments, medical expenses, rehabilitation expenses, lump sum compensation, and travel expenses. The level of financial support depends on the nature and severity of the injury.
What should I do if I get injured at work?
If the injury requires you to stop work immediately, you must notify your employer as soon as possible. You will need to contact your insurer whether it be WorkCover QLD or other to start your claim process. If a Certificate of Capacity is required prior you can book in with one of our doctors to help get the process started.
Is my injury eligible for WorkCover?
You may be eligible for workers’ compensation if you were injured whilst at work (on-site or off-site while performing duties), during a work-related activity (e.g. travel, heavy lifting and manual handling), or due to a hazard at work (e.g. unsafe environment). Psychological injuries may also be covered if proven to be work-related.
How long does it take for my WorkCover claim to be approved?
The timeframe for your WorkCover claim may vary, however, under normal circumstances insurers are required to make a decision within 20 business days in Queensland.
Can I choose my own physiotherapist or specialist?
Yes, in most cases you can choose your preferred healthcare specialist as long as they are WorkCover-approved providers. We can help coordinate the referral and treatment plan.
What if I can’t return to my original job?
If your injury prevents a full return, WorkCover can help with rehabilitation, retraining, or finding alternative employment through a return-to-work provider.
Will making a claim affect my job or employer relationship?
You have a legal right to claim for work-related injuries. Employers are not allowed to discriminate or dismiss you for making a claim.
Can psychological injuries be covered under WorkCover?
Yes, psychological injuries can be covered under WorkCover, however, they must be clearly work-related (e.g. bullying, trauma exposure, unsafe work). WorkCover claims for psychological injuries often require more documentation and assessment.
What should I bring to my WorkCover appointment with you?
Before you visit us, please ensure you have the following documents ready to ensure a smooth claims process:
- Employer details
- Details of the incident that caused your injury at work
- All your previous medical records
- A list of symptoms and medications
- All reports and paperwork you may have received from WorkCover and your employer
